Welcome to DCH

When you drive through Dedham Square, you can’t help but notice the stately, antique white house across from the Norfolk County courthouse. And if you spend just a few minutes connecting with locals, you’ll undoubtedly hear someone mention DCH. For more than a century, DCH has been a prominent figure in the Dedham area, literally and figuratively.

The mission of DCH is to provide Dedham and the surrounding towns with a breadth of programming that encourages people of all ages to thrive and create lifetime memories.

Our vision is to continue growing our inclusive, vibrant community by raising more awareness around the full scope of programming and financial aid offerings. DCH is a community organization where everyone is welcome, little kids become big kids, and friends become family.

Diversity Statement

DCH is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all its community members. We actively seek to promote diversity and equity in all aspects of our programming, and we recognize the importance of honoring unique perspectives and experiences. We strive to provide programs that are accessible and inclusive to all, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, or any other aspect of identity. By celebrating and embracing diversity, our vibrant community can continue to thrive and grow.

History of DCH

DCH (Dedham Community House) was founded as the Dedham Community Association in 1922 when Charles J. Kimball and a group of civic-minded citizens purchased an estate originally built by Judge Samuel Haven in 1795. The purpose of forming the charitable, nonprofit association was to preserve the historic mansion and provide a recreational center for the people of Dedham and the vicinity.

Today that original mission still rings true, while at the same time, we have become so much more. DCH is a vibrant community, a second family, and a local hub for all ages and backgrounds. Our community members come from all over—some have deep roots in Dedham, while others are new to town or hail from neighboring towns like Westwood, Norwood, Newton, and beyond.

We offer a breadth of educational, recreational, and civic programs organized by our dedicated Board of Directors and staff. DCH’s highly regarded preschool offers caregivers a childcare option where their kids can flourish in an inclusive environment. Our popular summer camp gives young kids a chance to enjoy the summer with friends and older kids the opportunity to work their first job as camp counselors. Other programs include our community pool, youth and teen programs, adult education classes, event space rentals, and a partnership with the Dedham School of Music.

DCH has become a true partner to the community, proudly offering scholarships and financial aid to help make programs accessible. We also support other local community groups through donated or discounted meeting and event space and by hosting networking events for local nonprofit organizations. We provide more than $200,000 in charitable discounts for programs and donated space each year.

DCH has been a staple in Dedham for generations, bringing people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life together for education, recreation, and civic engagements. It’s a special place where everyone is welcome, kids grow up with our programming, people form long-lasting friendships, and traditions are passed down through generations. DCH is more than a historic home in the center of Dedham—it’s the center of Dedham and the surrounding towns.
