Pool Rules & Safety Guidelines

For the safety and enjoyment of all guests, please follow these rules while visiting the DCH Pool.

Health & Hygiene

  • All swimmers must wear a clean bathing suit and take a cleansing shower before entering the pool.

  • Swimmers with shoulder-length or longer hair must tie it back or wear a swim cap.

  • Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper while in the pool. Swim diapers are available for purchase at the concession stand.

  • Please take young children to the restroom frequently and change swim diapers as needed.

  • Individuals who are ill, have open cuts or wounds, or have any contagious condition may not enter the pool.

  • No spitting in the pool or pool area.

Supervision of Children

  • All children must be accompanied and actively supervised by an adult at all times, regardless of swimming ability.

  • Children who cannot swim must remain within arm's reach of a supervising adult while in the water.

  • Lifeguards are responsible for pool safety and rule enforcement. They should not be considered babysitters.

  • Children under age 12 must pass the deep-end swim test before entering the deep end.

Pool Conduct & Safety

  • No running on the pool deck.

  • No diving.

  • No rough play, horseplay, or unsafe behavior.

  • No dangerous objects are permitted in the pool area.

  • Please be courteous when using pool stairs and allow others to enter and exit safely.

  • Do not climb on fences or use any facility equipment in a manner other than its intended purpose.

  • Showers are for rinsing before and after swimming only. Playing with or excessive use of the showers is not permitted.

  • The shower bench is reserved for individuals with disabilities and should remain in the upright position when not in use.

Food, Beverages & Smoking

  • No glass containers are permitted inside the pool fence.

  • Food and beverages must remain outside the pool fence. Please use the pavilion area for picnics and snacks.

  • Smoking and vaping are prohibited anywhere within the pool area.

Weather & Pool Closures

  • The DCH Pool is open weather permitting.

  • For the safety of our guests and staff, the pool must close immediately if lightning or thunderstorms are detected within 10 miles of the facility.

  • When weather conditions improve, we will reopen whenever possible. If we do not expect to have at least one hour of swimming time remaining in the day, the pool may remain closed.

  • Light rain does not automatically require the pool to close. As long as lifeguards can clearly see the bottom of the pool and conditions remain safe, the pool may remain open.

  • Occasionally, the pool may need to close temporarily for maintenance, water quality testing, or cleanup. These closures help ensure a safe and clean swimming environment for all guests.

  • We appreciate your patience and understanding when weather or operational conditions require us to adjust pool hours.

Capacity & Operations

  • The pool operates under a maximum occupancy limit established by the local Board of Health.

  • If capacity is reached, lifeguards will manage pool access through a rotation system.

Lifeguard Authority

  • Lifeguards have full authority to enforce all pool rules.

  • Please follow all instructions from lifeguards and staff. These rules are in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
